A suggestion: Rather than trial and error, you can use the Ruler tool to figure out the degree of rotation needed. Simply draw a ruler on your document over any part of the document that SHOULD be straight but isn't. It could be horizontal or vertical.

Then go to Image > Rotate Canvas > Arbitrary. You should see numbers already filled in. This is the degree of rotation that you will need to straighten the image.

It's very quick and once you learn it, it's easy to do over and over on many documents.

Hope that helps. I've already posted, and will be posting more Photoshop tutorials in the form of a Flash presentation on my blog at www.PShizzy.com . Feel free to take a look!

I have to respectfully disagree on the 80% business mailing list accuracy you mentioned. While some list services may indeed be inferior, I work with 3 or 4 that I have had very good results from.

Final step...CASS certify before you mail.

The original posting assumes that the data in a database comes from -- where, exactly? If the distinction being made is that self-reported data is inferior to data confirmed via objective sources, you will get no disagreement -- except, perhaps, from compilers who ask Yellow Page-listed companies to self-confirm their information.

Not sure where you get your statistics or information from but this is highly inaccurate. The D&B database is a multi-sourced database with the business owners being only one of the sources. Additionally, information accuarcy is benchmarked frequently with SIGNIFICANTLY higher results than your stated 80%.

The value of an occupant list is in the postage discounts and lead generation. The discounts can be significant over traditional mail advertisements ($10/m and higher). As for lead generation an occupant list contains every address as delivered by the USPS. Thus a client could ask for their own list to be supressed against an occupant file leaving non-customers. These can then be mailed, quite efficiently, generating leads not found in other traditional compiled files.

I did a project once for large format scans, that was in the line of your solutions. We use other programs, but the outcome was the same. Since then we consider PDF as an end format. Scanned images are always stored as tiff files until they leave our digital workflow.

Of course the company in question is selling shoddy products. Never trust a big national chain who suddenly decides they're going to pass on the savings to you when they've had no reason to do so in the past.

That will also depend on the type of printer your digital press center uses... some digital machines handle full bleed very nicely on the press! However offset pinting need to guilotined for creating a bleed effect on brochures and flyers... obviously $/hr come into efect then for both guilotine and staffing costs.

Thanks! Its painfully true how many people will send us their designs for flyers and brochures... especially graphic designers, and send in RGB or 70DPI for printing!

It seems a lot of graphic design schools don't concentrate on prepress very well!

Its interesting that you do note this... however the cost to the printer to set up a job for "digital printing" is neglible... most digital presses work very similar in fact to you own laser colour printer... So in reality, the cost for one flyer, brochure, or business card can actually be the same as 1,000 on a digital press.

On the other hand, offset printers are very expensive to set up, with plates, and inks all needing to be set up, as well as the machines neding to be cleaned after each job!

The benefit is that after about the 1,000 to 2,000 mark, they absorb their costs.

Go digital printing for less than 1,000 short runs, and go offset for larger runs of 1,000+

The only reason I would still use publisher is its print feature that allows me to create one business card and print it 12 up wihtout having to make more then one. I havent found that feature on an adobe product yet. If there is a way to do it I would love to know and I would switch

I agree 100% with this post. Corner stapling is fine if you're looking to save money, but binding makes your product look 100 times more professional. This is especially useful when creating business reports.
